Flower girl dress- how fancy?

I am wearing a traditional, fancy dress (something like this but without the sleeves, jus off the shoulder) http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=ht…

My finace is wearing a suit, my bridesmaids cocktail-length dresses, ceremony is in a park at 7PM in June- very quick- 15 minutes or so, reception to follow at my parent's farm

How fancy does the flower girl's dress have to be? I was thinking of making something like this: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?lis…
but in this fabric: http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/Item–i-… with a solid top and a sash (and probably a little sweater- it is still cold here in June) . I would also make a little matching vest for the ring bearer. Instead of flowers, I want her to have a little crown of daisies and he will have a little feather boutonnaire like the wedding party…

Do I need something fancier or will this look good?

Is this too informal?

NY public garden features poet’s favorite flowers – Yahoo! News

NEW YORK – They’re growing dandelions at the New York Botanical Garden. On purpose.

The Edenic estate in the Bronx has mounted an exhibition called “The Poetry of Flowers.” It focuses on the 19th-century poet Emily Dickinson, whose verse and letters described blossoms of all kinds and who was better known, when she lived, as a gardener than as a poet.

It’s a wide-ranging, indoor and outdoor springtime show, incorporating a breathtaking display of flowering plants in the Enid A. Haupt conservatory, a collection of 60 Dickinson-related artifacts in a gallery and dozens of outdoor stations that highlight her poems in the midst of the flowers she celebrated.

The Poetry Society of America, which turns 100 this year, is a co-presenter.

The flower garden installed in the giant glass conservatory is designed to resemble the grounds of Dickinson’s home in Amherst, Mass., by including the flowers she favored, based on her poems and letters.

“We don’t know exactly what her garden looked like but we know lots and lots of the plants she had,” said Francisca Coelho, who’s in charge of the conservatory. “And there were plenty of ideas in what she wrote.”

Describing a red tulip’s emergence from its underground bulb, Dickinson wrote:

“She slept beneath a tree _

Remembered but by me.

I touched her Cradle mute _

She recognized the foot _

Put on her Carmine suit

And see!”

The display includes windowed facades meant to look like Dickinson’s own home and her brother’s next door, and there’s a representation of the poet’s bedroom with a window providing a view like the one she had.

That view includes the weedy dandelion, whose coarse leaves are now the bane of suburban homeowners and whose airy seed head is the delight of children.

Dickinson, who lived from 1830-1886, wrote that the dandelion “Astonishes the Grass” and has “a shouting Flower.”

So there in the conservatory, the dandelion has a place of honor among lupines and delphinium, lilies and tulips, ferns, hydrangeas and a fruiting grapevine.

It might be best to see the flowers after viewing the exhibit in the garden’s Mertz Library, which displays some of Dickinson’s writings as well as a digital version of the herbarium she assembled in her teens by collecting, pressing and labeling about 400 plant specimens.

There’s also a reproduction of a white dress the poet wore. Judith Farr, an adviser to the show and author of “The Gardens of Emily Dickinson,” said Dickinson gave up wearing any color but white when she was in her 30s, as she began to withdraw from society. She also took on some other odd behaviors, including gardening at night.

One of the poet’s inspirations was a book called “Symbolical Language of Flowers,” which ascribed meanings to particular flowers — a poppy symbolizes doom, a violet means humility, etc. Farr said Dickinson used flowers as symbols repeatedly. The book is on display and many of the flowers can be found in the conservatory.

The poetry stations outside display Dickinson poems and offer audio messages about the works and the flowers that inspired them. Visitors can use their cell phones to hear the poems and get mini-lectures on the poet and the plants.

The show runs through June 13. On selected dates, literary figures such as former poet laureate Billy Collins will discuss the influence of Dickinson.

On the final weekend, June 12-13, visitors can join a marathon reading of Dickinson poetry.

The Delicate Beauty Of A Yellow Flower Girl Dress

While wedding clothes tend to be available in almost every color imaginable there tends to be one shade often neglected or overlooked, and that is the color yellow. This tends to be due to the fact that not many people have the complexions suited to most shades of this strong and warm color.

Trends are changing, however, and now it is easier to find all kinds of wedding garments in this unusual hue, including options for a yellow flower girl dress. In fact, it is in these gowns where the use of truly bold variants of yellow is possible. This is because there are so many designs for a yellow flower girl dress that look as if they belong more in a fairy tale or ballet stage.

For instance, sunflower yellow is a color that is often used for the base of a yellow flower girl dress, but this is moderated by such things as tulle and embroidered overlays. This could be a great way to really add a lot of “zing” or pizzazz to the bridal party.

Of course, a yellow flower girl dress might also fall under different color groups too. For instance many antique white gowns are actually closer to a pale yellow, while many remarkably pale green gowns tend to pair up beautifully with yellow accents too.

There are usually a few words of warning about extremely pale colors with children’s formal garments, and this applies to paler shades of yellow too. For example, if a child is put into one of the many sassy yellow dresses that look like something from a flower garden it may tend to energize that child. This is particularly true when the skirts are fuller and the bodice is sleeveless. While this might be a way to ensure that the flower girl is in a great mood throughout the wedding day, it might also prove problematic if the child is a bit “too” energized by the positive colors of their clothes.

This is usually the reason that it is important to include the flower girl in the selection process, to order swatches of the fabrics (if a dress is being purchased online or via a catalog), and to ensure that the actual hues work with the child’s complexion and personal taste.

Generally, it is also a good idea to ensure that the particular shade of yellow will coordinate with at least one other area of the bridal party or the overall wedding theme too.
